چکیده

We present the numerical solution of the non-linear evolution equation for DIS on nuclei for x = 10−2 ÷ 10−7. We demonstrate that the solution to the non-linear evolution equation is quite different from the Glauber Mueller formula which was used as the initial condition for the equation. We illustrate the energy profit for performing DIS experiments on nuclei. However, it turns out that the gain is quite modest: xAu ≃ 5xproton for the same parton density. We find that the saturation scale Qs ∝ A 1 3 . For gold the saturation scale Qs,Au ≃ 1.5 GeV at x = 10−3. Such a large value leads to considerable contribution of the high density QCD phase to RHIC data and reveals itself in essential damping for both xGA and F2A. Scaling Phenomena from Non-Linear Evolution in High Energy DIS

The numerical solutions of the non-linear evolution equation are shown to display the “geometric” scaling recently discovered in the experimental data. The phenomena hold both for proton and nucleus targets for all x below 10−2 and 0.25GeV2 ≤ Q2 ≤ 2.5 × 103 GeV2. The scaling is practically exact (few percent error) in the saturation region. In addition, an approximate scaling is found in the va...

Nonlinear evolution and saturation for heavy nuclei in DIS

The nonlinear evolution equation for the scattering amplitude of colour dipole off the heavy nucleus is solved in the double logarithmic approximation. It is found that if the initial parton density in a nucleus is smaller then some critical value, then the scattering amplitude is a function of one scaling variable inside the saturation region, whereas if it is greater then the critical value, ...

Non-linear Evolution and Parton Distributions at Low X

We suggest a new procedure for extrapolating the parton distributions from HERA to much higher energies. The procedure suggested consists of two steps. First, we solve the non-linear evolution equation. Second, we introduce a correcting function for which we write a DGLAP-type linear evolution equation. The nonlinear equation is solved numerically and estimates for the saturation scale, as well...

06 11 8 v 1 1 2 Ju n 20 01 DIS DATA AND THE PROBLEM OF SATURATION IN SMALL - x PHYSICS

New experimental data from HERA explore the region of very small x and small and moderate Q 2. We study the role of unitarity corrections in the description of these data. For that, we propose a model separating the small and large components of the q ¯ q fluctuation. This model gives a unified description of total and diffractive production in γ * p interactions. In this model unitarity correc...

Basics of the Color Glass Condensate ∗

The physics of the color glass condensate [1–3] covers and unifies under the same banner topics which have originally appeared and developed under various names — “small–x physics”, “BFKL evolution”, “unitarity corrections”, “parton saturation”, “multiple pomeron exchanges”, “higher twist effects”, etc. —, but which are modernly understood as manifestations or consequences of the same basic phy...
